Effect of MgF2 on Performance of Magnesium Oxide Ceramic with Pressureless Sintering
Magnesium oxide ceramics was prepared with light burning magnesium oxide powder as raw material, MgF2 as burning aids. The magnesium oxide ceramics was formed by dry pressing molding and sintered by no pressure liquid phase sintering. The effect of MgF2 content and sintering temperature on sintering performance of magnesium oxide ceramics was studied. The microstructure was characterized by means of SEM.The results indicate that the addition of MgF2 can inhibit magnesium oxide ceramic shrink significantly, and the obvious effect is obtained when the Magnesium oxide ceramics contained 3wt% MgF2 at 1500 ℃;the sintering of magnesia ceramics will be benefit from adding appropriate amount of magnesium fluoride. When the addition of MgF2 is 5wt% at 1600 ℃, the performance of promoting sintering is best, at this time, the grain of magnesia oxide is uniform, the boundary is clear, and the growth of crystal grain is complete, the volume density of magnesia oxide is up to 3.725g/cm3, low-temperature sintering can be realized because of these outstanding advantages. The less MgF2, the slower of magnesium oxide grain growth is, and the grain boundary is fuzzy, the size of big grain consuming the small one, resulting in produce more closed porosity.
