Efficient WSN Routing Protocol on Airfield Lighting Monitoring System

There is advantage of fixed physical location for airfield lighting in airport lamp monitoring using WSN, but some lamps location is irregular, which caused large consumption of the cluster head nodes in this logic region, early death, the formation of voids during transmission, and these voids undermined the entire wireless sensor networks energy balance, reduced the WSN lifetime. To solve these problems a routing protocol was proposed with evenly distributed cluster head position. This protocol was composed of two parts, Chain transmission protocol and clusterbased routing protocol, the chain transmission protocol was applied to the irregular region (corresponding to the long row lamp position). And cluster-based routing protocol with logical partitions was applied to other regions. In the clustering routing protocol, the clustering head election algorithm was bound to join constraints. These two constraints were the distribution of the candidate cluster head in the region and the node energy limitation. In order to verify the validity of the protocol, simulations have been carried out with MATLAB referring the lighting position distribution in an airfield approach zone. Simulation results show that the protocol has good network energy balance ability. The sensor network has a long working lifetime, and which is suitable for airport lamp monitoring.
