The vertical structure of the turbulent boundary layer under combined wave and current
A simple mathematical model, which is based on the horizontal momentum equation and the k-ε turbulent closure model, is used to understand the physics of the interaction between the turbulent wave and current boundary layers.Modeled instantaneous horizontal velocity and turbulent dissipation rate are compared for waves following currents and waves opposing currents. The vertical structure of the turbulent boundary layer under combined wave and current is examined.Modeled mean velocities are generally in reasonable agreement with Bakker and Van Dooms1 and Klopmans2experimental data, respectively.
