The unsteady numerical simulation of propeller cavitation behind a single-screw transport ship using OpenFOAM
In this paper, the numerical simulation results of the propeller cavitation behind a single-screw transport ship are presented based on OpenFOAM.The present work is focused on the unsteady propeller cavitation in the stem region.The present simulation is completed using RANS approach, VOF method and a sliding mesh scheme, and the SST-kw turbulence model is adopted, and the SchnerrSauer cavitation model is adopted in the simulation.Furthermore, the effects of the cavitation models parameters on the cavitation shape are investigated compared with experimental results.The key features,the propeller cavitation shape change with the rotation angles in the ship stem region, show good agreement with the experiment observations, as well as the cavitation area on the blade investigated.
