Recent progress on the study of cloud cavitation in CSSRC
This paper describes the new achievement on the study of cloud cavitation during the last decade in China Ship Scientific Research Center (CSSRC).The aim of these researches is to explore the formation and development mechanism of cloud cavitation. Some straight hydrofoils and three dimensional twisted hydrofoils are adopted to investigate the cloud cavitation flows with both experimental and numerical methods.Reentrant jet flows arisen in the end of sheet cavitation are found to be the cause of cloud cavitation both by high-speed camera observations and theoretical analysis.U-shaped vortex structures are shown as common flow phenomena in the evolution of cloud cavitation both by experiment and numerical simulations. The bubble distributions in the cloud cavitation were also measured by Interferometric Laser Imaging method for different stages of cloud cavitation development.
