Numerical simulation on the flopping behavior of two side-by-side cylinders at different Reynolds numbers
In this study, two-dimensional numerical simulations are carried out to investigate the bi-stable characteristics of the flow past two side-by-side cylinders arranged at a constant spacing ratio L/D=1.70.The flopping behaviors were studied at four different Reynolds numbers of 100, 200,500 and 1000.It was found that the quasi anti-phase vortex shedding pattern is observed when the relative position of wide wake and narrow wake changes.The average time interval between flops is found to be irregular and varied with increasing of Reynolds number.The drag coefficient in the wide wake is much smaller than that in the narrow wake and such difference is found to be not sensitive to the variation of Reynolds number.
