The experiment and numerical calculation on a 3D hydrofoil with the dual vortices of local and leading edge
In this paper, a twist 3D hydrofoil was designed for understanding the tip vortex structure in details.Observations of cavitation and measurements of the velocity distribution around the tip vortex have been carried out on this foil.The local tip vortex and leading edge vortex were found in cavitation observations.At the same time, a numerical calculation of this foil by CFD has been made.RANS method was adopted to simulate the tip vortex flow around the foil.A grid scheme with boundary layer grid,together with a local refined grid in the tip vortex can capture the local tip vortex and leading edge vortex near the tip region.Based on the CFD results, a simplified vortex model was applied to calculate and analysis the pressure distributions and the characteristics in the vortex core.
