Meshless particle methods for solving the water hammer equations

  To solve the water hammer equations, the meshless particle methods are systematically analyzed and compared.Based on Taylor series expansion and kernel approximation, a unified matrix formulation of the SPH and its corrections is developed,with a further improvement to the derivative approximations.By assuming that the compact support of the kernel is fully within the problem domain, numerical errors are analyzed.With aiming to the extended application of the particle methods, enforcement of boundary conditions associated with water hammer equations is presented and discussed.Two water hammer cases with instantaneous and linear valve closing are studied.
