Numerical simulation of damaged compartment flooding with air compression effect

  The CFD method based on solving the RANS equations was applied to simulate water flooding into damaged compartments with air compression effect.The air and water were treated as compressible and incompressible fluids,respectively.The VOF method was adopted to capture the fluid interface.The behavior of air was approximated by the ideal gas law.The RNG k-ε model was employed for turbulence modeling.The flow fields of velocity and pressure were coupled utilizing the SIMPLE algorithm.To validate the present method, the ITTC benchmarking case of a box-shaped barge flooding was simulated.The benchmarking results are presented and preliminarily discussed.
