Unsteady cavitating flow around a hydrofoil: Comparison of the standard k-ε model and a modified PANS

  Unsteady cavitating turbulent flow around the two-dimension Clark-Y hydrofoil is investigated numerically with two different turbulence modeling approaches: the standard k-ε model and the modified PANS turbulence model.By comparison with the experimental pictures, the modified PANS model captures the flow detail in cavitating flow around hydrofoil well.The modified PANS model reflects the unsteady nature of the re-entrant jet.With numerical results, a simplified one dimensional model is used to explain the relationship between the cavity volume pulsations and the pressure fluctuations around the hydrofoil.
