Effect of mass ratio on the vortex-induced vibrations of a top tensioned riser
A numerical study of the vortex-induced vibration of a flexible vertical riser in a stepped current is presented. The risers responses in both the in-line and cross-flow directions are investigated simultaneously. In order to study its effect upon the vibrational behavior in both directions, the mass ratios are varied from 2 to 6.A sudden drop of the peak value of dominant modal vibrations may happen for transitions and the width of the response envelope of in-line vibration is larger than that of cross-flow one.
