The qualitative investigation on one new type hollow gravity anchor

  Gravity anchor is an effective berthing aid device utilizing holding power to anchor and stabilize ships, floating platforms and other marine equipment.Though the gravity anchor has been widely used for its low cost and high holding power, it produces rotational and horizontal displacements in the process of dropping anchor, due to the influence of construction error, wind and wave power.Furthermore, it may cause more serious distance deviation between the release point of the anchor and the target.In this paper, one new type gravity anchor, called as hollow-quadrangular-frustum-pyramid-structural gravity anchor which is made by digging a water channel crossing the center of one ordinary quadrangular-frustum-pyramid-structural gravity anchor, has been qualitatively researched by numerical simulation method, and the results indicate that the new type hollow anchor can decrease the rotation angle and horizontal displacement when anchoring.
