On the transient wave-roughness-blockage interaction in fluid piping systems
This paper investigates the wave-roughness-blockage interaction in pressurized fluid pipes under transient flow conditions.The laboratory experiments and analytical analysis are conducted to examine the influences and importance of rough blockages with different configurations (irregularities and severities) to the wave propagation in pipes.The results show that the wave scattering effect of rough blockages plays an important role in both the envelope attenuation and frequency shift of the waves compared to roughness friction damping only.The practical implications of this study are discussed in the end of this paper.
