Research on the resistance and motions of a trimaran in regular waves of different wave amplitudes

  An unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes method is adopted to calculate the resistance and motion of a trimaran in regular heading waves.As an initial step, unsteady simulations of a trimaran free in heaving and trimming in clam water are performed, and the clam water resistance is compared with the experimental data, which show satisfactory agreement.For the trimaran in regular heading waves, the viscous flow fields around the hull are simulated in three different conditions, in which the wave amplitudes are different.The results of one condition are compared with the experimental data.The added resistance and motion of the trimaran in heading waves of each condition are compared and analysed, and the comparison demonstrated the influence of the incoming wave amplitude on the trimaran resistance and motion.
