An application research of vortex generator on vibration reduction for multi-propulsion vessel
Vortex generator (VG) installed in proper position of ship surface can improve the cavitation performance of ship propeller and reduce the local vibration on ship stern.In this paper, the principium of VG is introduced in some applications on single screw ships.Cavitation observations and pressure fluctuation measurements were carried out in China Ship Scientific Research Center (CSSRC) with and without vortex generator for many ship models, such as single screw ships and a multi-propulsion ship.The main specifications of VG were studied and the experience formula for VG design is obtained on single screw ship, which was proved also effective for multi-propulsion ship.The experiment results of multi-propulsion ship indicate that a proper VG can obviously reduce the pressure fluctuation and increase the stability of cavitation pattern on propeller blades.From the results of local vibration calculation, the vibration is under the critical value for this kind of multi-propulsions ship.
