Study on forcedly-parametrically excited roiling of a ship in oblique waves based on a 3D time-domain method

The numerical simulation methods for direct stability assessment of parametric rolling are under development by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).To guarantee navigation safety of ships in any course, the study on forcedly-parametrically excited rolling in oblique seas is unavoidable. Here a 3D time-domain method based on Rankine source and time-domain Green function is used to calculate hydrodynamic forces, and Froude-Krylov forces and hydrostatic restoring forces are integrated under the incident wave surface. At the same time, the coupling motions with five degrees of freedom, and nonlinear roll damping are considered, and PD rudder control is added to keeping course. The numerical results are in good agreement with existing experimental results, which show that its an efficient method for predicting forcedly-parametrically excited rolling in oblique waves.
