Time-domain analysis for coupling motions of ships side by side advancing in waves

  Time-domain analysis for coupling motions of ships side by side advancing in waves is carried out.A time domain hybrid Green function method is employed to solve the hydrodynamic problems of two ships in waves.By this method, the fluid filed is decomposed into inner and outer domain by an imaginary control surface, the Rankine source method is applied in the inner domain while the transient Green function method is used in the outer domain.Two initial boundary value problems are matched by the continuity conditions on the control surface.A wigley hull ship and a rectangular barge arranged side by side in beam waves are investigated, the hydrodynamic interactions between the ship and barge are analyzed.Based on that the coupling motions between a supply ship and frigate advancing in waves are also simulated.Good agreement is obtained between numerical results and experimental data, and the proper resonant phenomenon is also showed.It indicates the present method is correct and available.
