Influence of runoff on the movement of stagnation points in the North passage of the Yangtze River Estuary
A three-dimensional hydrodynamic model, with a high resolution unstructured mesh and spatially varying bottom roughness, is applied to quantify the influence of runoff on the movement of stagnation points in the North Passage of the Yangtze River Estuary. The model has well been validated through observation data of tidal level, flow velocity and direction. The performances under six different runoff scenarios reveal that (1) the stagnation point in the upper of the North Passage will disappear and the lower point will move seaward as runoff increase, (2) the position of stagnation point outside the estuary is relative stable, which is about 56 km apart from Hengsha station.
