Effect of phosphorus adsorption on the sediment zeta potential

Zeta potential is an essential parameter to evaluate the flocculation characteristic of fine sediment, which will adsorb phosphorus in aquatic system. In this study, isothermal equilibrium phosphorus adsorption experiments were carried out with sediments from different origins.Zeta potentials of sediment samples were measured before and after phosphorus adsorption by sediments. It can be concluded that the change of Zeta potential is proportional to the amount of phosphorus adsorbed by per unit mass of sediment, but the ratio coefficients (the change of Zeta potential / the amount of phosphorus adsorbed by per unit mass of sediment) of sediments from different origins are different.
