Flow structure and turbulence in partly-vegetated open channel
The flow structure in the partly-vegetated open channel under submergence condition was investigated. The observations show that, near the lateral edge of vegetation canopy, the vertical profile is deflected at the near-bed region, coincident with the negative y,-component Reynolds stress. The velocity deflection is attributed to the vertical behavior of formed horizontal coherent vortices which are significantly suppressed by the bed resistance at the near-bed region, confirmed by small y-component Reynolds stress at the near-bed region compared to the upper vegetation layer.Further, a simplified model of turbulence structure is proposed to further interpret the flow/vegetation interaction.
