Evaluation of entrainment rates of sediment grains under plane bed,fixed dune and mobile dune conditions
Sediment entrainment rate varies under different bed conditions.Entrainment functions that have been developed with the data measured under the plane bed condition may not be applicable for dune-covered beds.The present study evaluates sediment entrainment rates under three bed conditions, i.e.plane bed, fixed dunes and mobile dunes.The results show that the local sediment entrainment rate measured over fixed dunes agree with those measured under the plane bed condition.However, the presence of mobile dunes causes a considerable reduction in sediment entrainment for high densimetric Froude numbers.
