Exploring the Gamification-Based Intergenerational Learning:A Case Study

Faced with the rapid development of information technology and the great changes of society construction, some scholars have brought forward the concept of intergenerational learning (IL), a new way being helpful to different generations in enhancing information ability and information literacy. In this paper, the current research status on IL is presented firstly, especially the pertinent definition of IL in the ICT context. We argue that gamification may be suitable for intergenerational learning and illustrate which game design elements are the core drivers in the learning process. Then, we employ case study method to analyze two kinds of IL software embedded with gamification design elements and identify that game design elements such as points, badges, time pressure, parallel communication systems, social network, three-dimensional environments etc.indeed own positive effect to the diverse users. The study may yield some theoretical and practical implications for those designers and managers of learning software and systems.
