Motivations to Use Social Media and Information Behaviors of College Students:A Comparative Analysis of WeChat, Weibo and QQ
Although there are a number of studies that have been carried on the motivations to use social media, little has been published about the information behaviors patterns led by motivations on different social media platforms.To fill this gap, this study is to address the paucity in research on analysis of the relationship between college students motivations and information behaviors.Using WeChat, Weibo and QQ as the platform for our case study and based on a questionnaire survey, the differences in motivations by demographical characteristics, social media usages preferences, information behaviors led by motivations, and the correlation between the motivations and users information behaviors are examined, which is extremely valuable for researchers and educators to understand the college students psychological characteristics and behavior patterns in social media environment, and will be helpful for social media service system to understand the information needs of youth users and better serve them in different social media platforms.
