Knowledge Sharing Disengagement in Collaborative Healthcare Practices
Knowledge sharing (KS) disengagement has been accepted as a novel and alternative explanation for the lack of KS in organisational environment. However, in the healthcare environment, the disengagement from KS between healthcare professionals has not been studied. This paper reports on a research study, which aims to explore and understand the causes of disengagement from patient-centred KS in collaborative healthcare practices. This study adopted an inductive secondary analysis approach, in which interview data collected from a previously complete case study were adopted and analysed thematically. This case study originally aimed to investigate the lack of KS in the interprofessional collaboration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine professionals in Chinese hospitals. The secondary analysis pointed to five causes for KS disengagement: availability, meaningfulness, convenience, management requirement, and safety.Furthermore, a theoretical model was developed through the conceptulisation of the research findings and can be adopted as a basis for future investigation and exploration.
