Aggregate Knowledge Communities from Citation Network:A Case Study of XML Related Research Domain
Citation network analysis is an efficient way to aggregate knowledge communities. This paper aims at proposing using traversal weight indictor combined with island algorithm as approaches to detect knowledge communities from citation networks. The citation network of the XML related articles was adopted to evaluate and verify the proposition.17600 papers which indexed by Web of Science database was systematically searched, and citation links among them were used for network construction. The analysis consisted of two main stages, namely, the evaluation of paper importance and the detection of the knowledge communities. In the first stage, the paper TW were selected and used for the measurement of the importance of the papers.Based on the results of the first stage, the knowledge communities was analyzed using the island algorithm, specifically, and the paper/citation islands. The results show that the island algorithm is a valid and reliable approach to detect knowledge communities from citation network. The citation islands present a good capacity to aggregate knowledge communities. It is hoped that this study may contribute to the structure analysis of citation network and knowledge aggregation.
