Effect of multi-information sources on pedestrian evacuation from a hall

In this paper, an extended lattice gas model is proposed to simulate pedestrian evacuation from a hall under the influence of multi-information sources.A parameter recognition degree is introduced to describe the pedestrians behaviour differences after they receive evacuation guidance information. The numerical simulations are performed to investigate the effects of the number, position distribution and strength of multi-information sources on the evacuation efficiency and process in a hall. The spatiotemporal dynamic characteristic during the evacuation process is also discussed. The results show that the presented model can reproduce some essential features of pedestrian evacuation, e.g., the arching and clogging at exit. The comparisons with and without information sources indicate that information source plays a key role in improving evacuation efficiency. For the single information source, the evacuation efficiency is the highest when it nears the exit.Furthermore, the increase of the number of information sources is not always positive to the pedestrian evacuation and it depends on the position distribution of information source. In addition, if pedestrian could move strictly according to the evacuation guidance information, the whole evacuation time will be decreased drastically and the corresponding evacuation efficiency will be improved greatly.
