Cohesion fracture model for elastic medium
To re-examine the shape effect of cohesive traction-separation curve and the cohesive zone size for crack growth, an elastic background medium with a center crack is employed.Using the method of Fredholm integral equation, the constitutive equation between cohesive traction and separation was obtained, and the relation between the linear elastic fracture mechanics(LEFM) and cohesive zone models in the case of cohesive zone development and crack growth in infinite elastic medium was discussed.The calculating results show that the shape of cohesive curve for elastic medium materials affects the cohesive zone size and the apparent energy release rate of LEFM for the crack growth, and the apparent energy release rate of LEFM approaches the cohesive energy density when the crack extends significantly longer than the characteristic length of the cohesive zone.
