Development of Oxide Ceramics-Containing Bond Coat Materials for Improvement of Interface Strength of Thermal Barrier Coatings

The aim of this research is to suggest the formation of wedge-like TGO under 1100℃ and to elucidate the mechanism of formation and growth of wedge-like TGO at the interface between TC and Ce-containing BC.And also, the technique of decreasing the temperature for formation of the wedge-like TGO was suggested.Due to achieve this aim, the mechanism of formation and growth of the wedge-like TGO was investigated by comparing the normal TBC,which was exposed in high temperature environment. As a result, the Cr oxide was formed on the Al oxide in the standard TBC specimen. But in the TBC specimen with Ce-containing BC, it was formed under the Al oxide. From this result, it is considered that oxygen diffusion to the interface between the TGO and the BC is promoted by Ce addition to the BC.And from the previous reports, it is thought that the formation and growth ofthe wedge-like TGO because CeO2 becomes an oxygen diffusion pass or Ce attracts oxygen. To investigate which is more important for the formation and growth of the wedge-like TGO, between CeO2 and Ce, the BC specimen which was made from the CoNiCrAlY and CeO2 mixed powder was compared with the BC specimen consisting of standard CoNiCrAlY powder and the one consisting of Ce added CoNiCrAlCe powder.
