Study on preparation of kapok/viscose-based active carbon fiber nonwoven fabric and its properties
Carbon fiber (ACF) is becoming more and more popular in recent years. And some ACF materials like the special absorption are used to purify polluted gases and liquids.Different types of materials such as synthetic or natural fibers are used as activated carbon fiber precursor since 1970, such as the polypropylene nitrile(PAN), phenolic fiber, and a carboxyl cellulose fiber and so on.Kapok is a natural and available material for its smooth surface and no twisty curve and with great absorption property especially for its homogeneous lumen and the round tubes which could be applied in certain fields as the excellent life saving material. Therefore, the concept of combining the complemental properties of the kapok and activated carbon fiber was introduced to prepare the viscose-based and high absorption fabric. And the activated carbon fiber was gained by activating, peroxidation and carbonizing the blended nonwoven fabric, which could be operated simply. And it explored the effects of different treatment on the content and kapok / viscose fabric and adsorption properties of activated carbon, infrared spectroscopy, electron microscopy and other properties of the morphological analysis. The results showed that the adsorption performance of the kapok and viscose-based nonwoven fabric got better with the increase of kapok content.
