Mechanical properties of cryogenic treated dry-jet wet-spinning and wet spinning carbon fibers
The wide uses of two methods spinning of PAN-based carbon fiberwere investigated, including dry-jet wet spinning and wet spinning. These two series of carbon fibers were cryogenically conditioned both in slow and sharp cooling rate to explore the effects of cryogenic treatment on its mechanical and interfacial properties. The tensile and interfacial shear strength (IFSS) properties were investigated in a comparative manner. The tensile strength of the two kinds of carbon fibers conditioned in sharp cooling rate (QM process) decreased. The dry-wet one decreased about 9.3%, while the wet one decreased about 12.9%.Meanwhile, both dry-wet spinning fiber and wet spinning fiber conditioned in sharp cooling rate (TPCM process) all decreased a little.Consequently, Weibull analysis results showed that two series of carbon fiber strength declined after cryogenic treatment, but the fiber dispersion of dry-jet wet one became small after TPCM, the property of fiber had improved.
