Mechanical Properties of Carbon Nanotube/Polyester Wrapping Yarn
A type of carbon nanotube/polyester yarns prepared by wrapping the carbon nanotube (CNT) yarn onto the surface of polyester filament yarn (PFY), in which the CNT is the skin yarn and the PFY is the core yam.CNT/PFY wrapping yarns were fabricated with various TPM (twist per meter), which includes single wrapping and double wrapping.The morphology and mechanical properties were tested by the three-dimension microscope and fiber strength tester respectively.The results showed that the CNT yarns were evenly wrapped onto the PFY core yarns and formed an integrity structure with PFY filament.The mechanical properties showed that the failure strengths of wrapping yarn were greater than that of CNT yarn plus PFY and increased with the increasing of TPM.In addition, there are some differences about mechanical properties between single and double wrapping yarn due to fracture.
