Constructing the New Metalworking Curriculum System for Adapting to Aims of the Talent Cultivation

The metalworking curriculum is a compulsory basic course for mechanical engineering and related majors in the college, and it has an irreplaceable role in the engineering education. The cultivating objective of modern talents essentially involves the following aspects, such as moral and thought quality, humanities art and social literacy, engineering ability and scientific literacy, innovation consciousness and team spirit, and so on.Therefore, it is the reform and developing direction of the metalworking curriculum that the curriculum system is constructed to adapt to the requirement of talent cultivation by combining the content system of curriculum with the aim of talent cultivation.Among the cultivating objectives of majors, the most significant differences are specific contents and requirements of the engineering ability and scientific literacy. For the cultivating aims of every major, the metalworking curriculum should have a corresponding content system.According to the requirements of cultivating aims, the contents of metalworking curriculum can be divided into three parts by the knowledge points, namely, core contents, general contents and assistance contents. The core contents must be mastered, general contents should be understood and familiar, while assistance contents only need to be known generally. At the same time, the related contents about advanced engineering materials and advanced manufacturing technologies are added into three content modules respectively to accommodate the requirements of industry and society development. On this basis, the content system model of metalworking curriculum is built to adapt to requirements of talent cultivation, and the model can be used to fit a series of course systems of metalworking in different majors. For constructing the content system of metalworking curriculum, the system model of metalworking curriculum is useful for reference to other majors.
