Training for Public Health and Plumbing Practice

  After the outbreak of SARS in 2003, plumbing has become a focal point regarding where virus could be transmitted through improper plumbing and drainage design.In July 2015, excess lead content in potable water supply of a public estate has raised great concern in Hong Kong.Both issues relate to public health in Hong Kong.As a trainer in plumbing and drainage engineering, Industrial Centre (IC) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) takes the initiation to provide fundamental training in plumbing and drainage design.IC has actively involved in water engineering training in Hong Kong and has provided a drainage rig for training more than ten years.This paper describes the incidents and the training to be provided and introduced by IC.Training in public health has been proposed to meet the urgent needs of plumbing industry in Hong Kong today.
