Investigation on Health Service with Traditional Chinese Medicine in Local Community Hospital
Objective: to analyze TCM service in the TCM clinic in Henan Province; Method: a survey of 266 TCM hospitals was done in 2009 and the descriptive analysis was applied; Results: 54.14% of the TCM hospital was owned by the government; 36.02% of the staff had the TCM education certificate, and 41.02% of the staff had the three-year medical education certificate (MEC) while 29.57% of the staff had the two-year MEC; the total value of the TCM equipment of the TCM hospital was 80.02% of the total value of the TCM equipment of the Province, and was 13.85% of the value of the equipment of the TCM hospital; the TCM treatment income was 43.21% of the total income; the TCM drug income was 48.47% of the total drug income; the total visits of the TCM hospital was 20.33% of the total visits of the Province;the total TCM prescription was 38.91% of the total prescription; more than 20% of the TCM hospitals can cure 10 specific TCM diseases.For the TCM hospitals, 57.14% of them had the independent dispensing room of TCM herbal pieces, 34.12% of them had the independent dispensing room of Chinese patent medicine, and 25.19% of them had the TCM preparation room; Only 6 kinds of TCM equipment can be allocated one piece per TCM hospital.Conclusion: the TCM hospitals were mainly owned by the government; the rate of TCM licensed doctors and mediastinu were not up to the national standard for the TCM hospital; the educational level of TCM hospital staff was not high, and the rate of staff with TCM education certificate was not high; the rate of the TCM equipment value was not high, and its allocation quantity was small; the income of the TCM hospital was mainly composed of Chinese patent medicine income and TCM herbal pieces income; the quantity of total visits and prescription of the TCM hospitals were large although the number of the TCM hospitals were not many, and the western medicine prescription was the major part of the total prescription.The construction of Chinese medicine room was not optimistic.The TCM hospital had a relative higher ability in providing TCM health service.Policy recommendation: There was a need to improve the policy for the TCM development, to increase the TCM staff and promote the education level of the staff, to increase the quantity of TCM equipment allocation, to strengthen the Chinese medicine room construction, to spread and apply the TCM specific treatments and specific TCM diseases to improve the quality of TCM health service and play the leading role of TCM hospital in providing TCM health service.
