Fantasy Movie, Fantasy Feeling: the Cultural Politics of Cyberpunk Films and American Soft Power
American government would like to constitute its hegemonic discourse via Hollywood films, as a soft power.Based on the phenomenon of cultural politics, this paper attempts to explore the inter-texual relation between cyberpunk films, international politics and the construction of American strategic ideology. The study could also identify the two correlated claims: the first is that the humanist and anthropological methodology often used to analyze pop culture could also be used to analyze international issues, if appropriately contextualized;the second claim is that a nation can manifest its discourse in international politics via the popular culture, as soft power.
