Influence of Vibration Frequency on Microstructure and Performance of High Chromium Cast Iron Prepared by Lost Foam Casting
The high chromium cast irons (HCCIs) were prepared using lost foam casting (LFC) process with different mechanical vibration frequencies in vertical vibration mode. The influence of vibration frequency on the microstructure and the performance of the obtained HCCIs under as-cast,as-quenched and as-tempered conditions were investigated. The results showed that the microstructure of the LFC produced HCCIs were refined with the introduction of vibration during solidification. The hardness of the HCCIs improved under different conditions when compared to that of the sample without vibration. However, only a slight increase of hardness was found with increasing of vibration frequency. In contrast, the impact toughness of the HCCIs under as-tempered condition increased with the increase of vibration frequency. As a result, the wear resistance of the HCCIs improved with the introduction of vibration and increased with increasing the vibration frequency.
