Niobium alloying in cast iron - Metallurgical effectsand addition practice
Niobium alloying has been used in cast iron for over 30 years although the number of application remained rather limited until today.Niobium has multiple metallurgical effects when added to cast iron.Larger addition leads to the formation of primary niobium carbidebeing dispersed as particles in the iron matrix.Due to the extremely high hardness of niobium carbide such particles the wear resistance of the iron alloy will be significantly increased.
