Benders approach for a bulk material distribution network design problem
This paper studies a strategic distribution network design problem of bulk materials considering two different distribution modes. The bulk materials are first unloaded in the distribution centers (in seaports) from large vessels on sea,and then transported to the demand terminals by small cargo ships or trains or trucks. Also, some demand terminals with berths on rivers allow these large vessels to unload the materials in their berths after necessary partly load-off in the distribution centers first.A mixed-integer model is established to address our concern of the selections of unloading centers in seaports and the choice of distribution ways.Benders decomposition (BD) are derived with strengthened Benders cuts.Computational study are conducted to illustrate the performance and effectiveness of the proposed solution approach.
