Evaluating E-Government in Brunei Darussalam

  Brunei Darussalam is a small, oil producing country in the South East Asian region.It is bigger in size than Singapore, however, has lesser population.Brunei Darussalam is currently working hard and striving its best to achieve a sustainable economic growth and development.This paper aims to evaluate the implementation of E-Government in Brunei Darussalam, whether thus far it is a successful and effective framework for the country.The government has introduced The E-Government Strategic Plan 2009-2014, in which it is parallel to the national vision of Wawasan2035, where Brunei Darussalam aims towards a smart E-Governance.However, despite all the initiative towards a successful, smart E-Governance, the government has been struggling to achieve its goals, hence the introduction of the strategic plan mentioned above.This paper will also explore the challenges and identify the problems that arose in the process of implementing e-government.As of March 2014, Brunei Darussalam has dropped to 86th place in the United Nations E-Government Survey.Thus, we will bring forward what is there to be done in order for the Brunei government to withstand and overcome these obstacles.
