State Affirmative Action in India: A Case to Revisit Social and Educational Backwardness Criteria
The affirmative policy measures are constitutionally mandated and extended on social and educational backwardness and inadequate representation in public services determined on caste basis.But the advancement of some backward castes and demand by other castes and religious groups has brought many kinds of controversies, conflicts and irrationality in it.Therefore the criterion of social and educational backwardness needs to be revisited in order to make the reservation policy effective to ensure fairness, equality and inclusiveness in the society.
