Applications of WeChat in the Public Sector: An Empirical Study in Chongqing

　　Following the boom of Mobile Internet, the expanding of social media has transformed the communication styles of billions of people.Chinese leaders proposed new requirements for E-Government development, with particular emphasis on the government new media.WeChat, as the dominant mobile social media platform in China, has spawned a large number of government WeChat accounts which serve as an emerging tool to deliver public services.However, there is a distinct gap of the use of these WeChat public platforms in different regions of China.There are few studies to investigate the development status of the government WeChat accounts in southwestern China.An empirical study is performed in this research to analyze the use of government WeChat accounts in Chongqing, one of the major cities in China.Based on the findings, this paper provids some suggestions and recommendations for the management of government WeChat accounts.
