Effect of Different Protruding Fibers on Fabric-evoked Prickle Assessment on Various Human Body Areas

In this study, a subjective measurement method for assessing the fabric-evoked prickle sensation of wear fabrics is proposed.Fabrics with various component fibres, namely cotton, Cashmere, flax, hemp, ramie, jute, wool, and cotton/polyester are tested. The subjective tests show high sensitivity, good within-subject reliability and between-subject consistency. From the eight fabrics investigated, cotton, cashmere and cotton/polyester fabrics are perceived to have the lowest prickle sensation, while linen and hemp fabric produced moderate prickle sensation.Jute, wool and ramie fabrics have the highest prickle sensations. The influence of different human body part areas was investigated when subjects rated the wear fabric based on prickle sensation and no significant difference is observed between different body parts.
