Effect of Heat-setting Conditions on the Compression Property of Esophageal Stent

Patients who suffered with esophageal stricture usually feel dysphagia and were often exposed to open surgery to treat the disease. At present, endoscopic treatment for esophageal stenosis with stent insertion is an alternative to surgery. As for the bad biocompatibility of metallic stent, the state-of-art endoscopic treatment for esophageal stenosis is braiding stent with biomedical polymer materials and has achieved good results. In order to restore a tubular shape of the stent, it is necessary to be heat-set after braiding on the machine. Moreover, it has been proved that the elements of heat-setting such as time and temperature could affect the mechanical properties of stent seriously. This paper describes the investigation of heat-setting effects on mechanical properties of braiding stents especially on the compression properties. In order to find out the best heat-setting process parameters which might be most suitable for the esophageal stent, this paper has tested the mechanical performance of stent with different heat-setting time (range from 5 min to 15 min) and temperature (range from180 ℃ to 220 ℃).The results shows that there is an optimum time and temperature for braiding stent to treat with esophageal disease.
