Experimental Study of Jute-bioepoxy Composites Water Absorption and Tensile Strength Behavior
Pollution of environment and energy crisis have prompted people to realize the importance of environmental protection and the urgency to improve sustainable development.Recycled natural fibers and biopolymers with sustainable, eco-friendly, and biodegradable properties are receiving increased attention. However, the moisture absorption and swelling of natural fiber composites adversely influences their mechanical properties and applications. In this research, bio-based epoxy polymers that were reinforced with woven jute fabrics were subjected to water immersion tests in order to study the effects of water absorption on their mechanical and geometrical properties. The effect of fiber percentage on water absorption was measured as a function of immersion time.It was observed that water absorption increased with the increasing fiber content. The stress decreased and the strain increased after water immersion.Regression analysis with Minitab showed the water absorption behavior was highly similar to the logarithm function.
