Nitrifying Activity and the Response Characteristics of the Ammonia Oxidizing Bacteria Abundance in Urban River
The growth of ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) in Beiyun River were characterized through real-time PCR molecular techniques that using 16s rRNA and amoA as target gene.The allylthiourea (ATU) was applicated as a nitrification inhibitor simulation of the oxygen consumption in the process of carbonation and nitrification.The relationship between AOB abundance and nitrification activity was investigated.The results shows that the quantity of AOB in Beiyun River arrange from 69×107 to 1.7×109 copies/L,which is higher than Dongjiang River,Minjiang River and the Seine River in France.Ammonia concentration and nitrification activity in water of Shahe Reservoir and Yangwa floodgate were similar.The dam leads to water mobility bring about pollutants migration to slow down.Nitrifying activity and population of AOB in Shahe downstream was decreasing due to pollution sources import.But the nitrification capacity just maintained at a short distance,ammonia was increase with the nitrifying activity and population of AOB in downstream decrease.There is high ammonia nitrogen concentration and potential nitrification activity in Beiyun River.The ability of natural nitrification cant satisfy the degradation of high concentration ammonia nitrogen in spite of the nitrification activity of the water can maintain the stable concentration level of ammonia nitrogen at present.Ammonia oxidizing bacteria and Heterotrophic microorganisms can jointly utilize carbon source and nitrogen source to degrade ammonia nitrogen.
