Particle hygroscopicity during wintertime in the urban atmosphere of Beijing, China
1.Introduction Particle hygroscopicity plays an important role in visibility degradation,atmospheric chemistry,and cloud formation and with that also in the global climate (Pandis et al.,1995;Sloane and Wolff,1985;McFiggans et al.,2006).The studies on interaction between water vapor and atmospheric aerosols and the respective relation to chemistry can provide a clear picture of the physicochemical properties to understand the behavior of particles taking up water in the atmosphere.In current study,we investigated the size-resolved particle hygroscopicity and chemical composition during wintertime in Beijing.Our work provided a general overview of particle hygroscopic behavior as well as a comparison of the observed hygroscopic particle growth.
