Simplified DNA-SA conjugate-mediated detection of mercury ions using a fiber-based evanescent wave platform
Background Mercury is a highly toxic metal that can cause adverse effects to human body parts.1 The annual global release of mercury into the environment was estimated to be 5,000-8,000 metric tons.2Based on the fact that Hg2+ ion in aqueous solution is the most common state of toxic mercury,it is especially urged to develop highly sensitive and selective Hg2+ sensors.Since the discovery of T-Hg2+-T mismatch by Ono and Togashi in 2004,3 mismatch-based Hg2+ biosensing techniqueshas become an attractive topic in environmental science.
