A Comparative Study on Three Sequencing Batch Reactors for Enhancing Nitrogen Removal in Digested Piggery Wastewater
1 Introduction Digested piggery wastewater (DPW) contains high concentrations of chemical oxygen demand(COD),total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) while is in a low COD/TN ratio.Traditional wastewater treatment methods such as an anoxic-oxic (A/O) process or a sequencing batch reactor(SBR) show limitations in efficient TN removal. Moreover, the consumption of alkaline and carbon-source is high.An intermittently aerated sequencing batch reactor (IASBR) has been developed, which could achieve stable partial nitrification and thereby save 25 % of the aeration energy and 40 % of the external carbon source. This study compared the pollutant removal performance under three non-aeration and aeration switch modes.
