Acetate production and energy utilization in microbial electrosynthesis system under different cathode potentials

1.Introduction Global warming,energy crisis and environmental pollution force people to develop novel methods of immobilizing CO2 with sustainable energy.Microbial electrosynthesis system (MES) is a promising technology for immobilizing CO2 using bioenergy,in which the acetogenic bacteria utilize electricity as the energy source to convert the carbon dioxide to multi-carbon organic molecules that can serve as transportation fuels 1.Since the Wood-Ljungdahl (WL) pathway is the most efficient method for acetate and ethanol production 2,the MES can be used for converting renewable energy (like solar) to biocommodities 3.
