Competition for electrons between nitrate and nitrite during denitrification
Nitrification and denitrification are main process for bio remediation of nitrogen contained wastewater.Usually nitrification is autotrophic process,in which ammonia nitrogen was transformed into nitrate, and this process was easily realized, however denitrification is heterotrophic process,in which nitrate is transformed into nitrite, and nitrite is further into nitric oxide or nitrogen gas.The two denitrification processes are electrons required steps, and the denitrification rate is usually proportional to electron equivalents supplied. In this work,we investigated effect of exogenous electrons on the two denitrification rates, and explored reason why electrons flow into the fast denitrification preferentially.
